Our Heritage
It all started the fall of 1901 at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Five women formed a bond of friendship through the sorority recruitment process. Each of them had been extended bids, however, accepting these bids meant they would be separated into different organizations.
The night of November 15th, a new sisterhood was formed. All members of Alpha Sigma Alpha owe their thanks to these five founding members: Virginia Boyd Noell, Juliette Hundley Gilliam, Calva Watson Wootton, Louise Cox Carper, and Mary Williamson Hundley.

Our Beginnings
After going through the sorority recruitment process, a group of women felt that their options were limited at UAA and that the current sororities were not providing them with the experience they were looking for.
They wanted more! It took determination and many months of research before they came across their answer, and eventually followed in the steps of the Alpha Sigma Alpha founders hundreds of years ago.
They contacted AΣA headquarters about forming an interest group on campus. Why AΣA? The values, creed, aims, and mission statement spoke to them and their beliefs.
Soon after, the Alpha Sigma Alpha Colony was born at UAA. It was the strength and perseverance of those women that led us to April 17th, 2004: The day we received our charter as the Theta Delta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
